Sail away for the day on a traditional Swahili dhow.

We sail out of Mossuril Bay, past the mighty Fortaleza de São Sebastião and arrive on the deserted headland of the Cabaceira peninsula where we make our way up to the sacred Baobabs.

After a short beach walk, enjoy a swim in the clear, emerald waters of the lagoon and laze on the dazzling white sands of Varandas beach.  Explore private beach coves and the miniature eco-systems of myriad rockpools.

Meanwhile the crew cook a sumptuous seafood lunch of locally caught fish carefully prepared with a special blend of fresh lime and piri-piri, traditional hand-grated coconut rice and fresh salads. Eat and relax under the shade of the towering Baobabs and hear stories of the ceremonial practices and rituals that have continued up until recent times.

Next, twist and turn through the tangled mangrove forests to Cabaceira Pequena and learn about Siri Siri, a wild harvest food plant that is the main ingredient for the local Matapa dish.  Visit the traditional lime kilns where your guide will explain the centuries old lime-making process in all its stages.

In the 16th century when the Portuguese occupied Ilha de Moçambique, the Swahili trading population set up their base across the water here in Cabaceira. Walking through the old Swahili village at Cabaceira Pequena with a local guide is a very special experience because he and his family before him all grew up here. There is ample opportunity to interact with the locals and feel the rhythm of village life.

Meanwhile your dhow has sailed around to meet you at the beach. All you have to do now is climb aboard and sail home at the end of a perfect day.
